On 15th January 2020, Consul General Zheng Xiyuan met with Manchester China Forum Executive Director Rhys Whalley at Consulate office. Consul Lyu Xiaomei accompanied him.
Consul General Zheng extended his New Year’s greetings to Mr. Whalley and Forum members and said that the Manchester China Forum is a new development in the context of President Xi Jinping’s visit to Manchester and the ‘Golden Era’of China-UK relations jointly launched by Chinese and British leaders. It has made great contributions to promoting cooperation between Greater Manchester and China and telling China story since its establishment six years ago and has set a good example for leading the promotion of cooperation between Northern England and China. Many other regions and cities like the Lake District, Liverpool, Leeds and York have followed this example to set up their own China Forum one after another. He pointed out that the Consulate General is willing to work closely Manchester China Forum and work towards improving the well-being of and friendship between the peoples of the two countries.
Mr. Whalley thanked the Consulate General for its strong and long-lasting support for the Manchester China Forum. He gave a briefing on future development priorities and opportunities across Greater Manchester and discussed with the Consul General on areas of mutual interest.
