On 6 December, Consul General Tang Rui met with the Leader of Newcastle City Council Nick Kemp at the City Council House, and exchanged views with him on promoting regional cooperation between China and Newcastle.

Consul General Tang Rui said that Newcastle is an important city in the northeast of England, and in recent years, it is promoting economic transformation and development with strengths in automobile manufacturing, renewable energy, marine engineering, life science and medicine. At present, China is solidly promoting high-quality development of the economy, and both sides have a good foundation for cooperation in many areas, which can be further expanded and deepened. Sister-city cooperation is an important channel for regional cooperation between China and the UK and Consul General Tang is willing to work with Mr. Nick Kemp to facilitate each other to achieve its development goals respectively. 

Council leader Nick Kemp provided Consul General Tang Rui with the latest Newcastle Inclusive Economy Strategy and made an introduction of it. Nick Kemp said that next year Newcastle will form a new coalition government with neighboring counties and cities, and he believes that the expanded coalition government will take a broader and farther view of the development of relations with China. Newcastle City Council will continue to promote exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side in various fields and support the development of the local Chinese communities.
