On 10 January 2024, Consul General Tang Rui visited the Manchester Museum and attended the welcome party for doctoral candidates under the cooperative scholarship between the China Scholarship Council and the University of Manchester, while introducing the spirit of the Central conference on work relating to foreign affairs.

Consul General Tang said that at the Central Conference on Work relating to Foreign Affairs held last month, President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech, clarified the goals and tasks of major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era, put forward a series of new arrangements and requirements to enrich and develop Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy. To build a community with a shared future for mankind, China will strive to build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world of lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity and carry out exchanges and integration with all countries in the world, so as to drive for human progress. The “Lee Kai Hung Chinese Culture Gallery” at the Manchester Museum is a true reflection of this philosophy, which not only demonstrates the long-standing friendship between Manchester and China, but also provides a good platform for promoting mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries.

Director Esme Ward said that the idea of building a community with a shared future for mankind coincides with the vision of the Manchester Museum, which seeks to tell a different story of the China-UK relationship through the Chinese cultural gallery, promoting mutual learning between different cultures and values and building a bridge between history and modernity.

When attending the welcome party for doctoral students, Consul General Tang introduced the

historic accomplishments and changes in major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in new era, and hopes that the students would pass the “baton” of China-UK relations, bolster confidence, cultivate friendship and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. He also reminded the students to bear in mind the great expectations of the country and the society, continue to study hard and make excellent achievements to serve the motherland and contribute to the society.

Prof. David Polya, Associate Dean at the Faculty of Science and Engineering of the University of Manchester, said that the University has long maintained friendly communications and exchanges with the Consulate General in Manchester. He was glad that the Consul General and his delegation participated in this activity and expressed the hope that the students will continue to strengthen exchanges with the Consulate General, the University and communication with each other to spend a wonderful time at the University.
