|Consul General Zheng Xiyuan Held Video Meetings with Heads of Universities|
On September 3, 2020, Consul General Zheng Xiyuan held video meetings respectively with Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester, and Professor Dame Janet Beer, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liverpool, to discuss about measures ensuring Chinese students' arrival onto campuses. Education Counsellor Zhao Jiang, Consul Lyu Xiaomei, Consul Chen Xuefeng and Vice Consul Hu Xiao attended the meeting.
As the school yearis about to start, Consul General Zheng Xiyuan stated that Chinese leaders and the Chinese government are deeply concerned about the safety of the Chinese students coming to study in the UK. The University of Manchester and the University of Liverpool, with the highest concentration of Chinese students, have made strenuous efforts to ensure the safety of Chinese students since the outbreak of Covid-19. The Chinese Consulate looks forward to seeing universities making plans to ensure a safe arrival of old and new students onto campus.
Consul General Zheng concluded by stressing the importance of seeking common ground while reserving differences for the benefit of both Chinese and British peoples, and reiterated his wish to work closely with the universities to help bring China-UK relationship back on track.
